Songs About Nurses

It's National Nurses Week, and we here at Wax & Tracks ("we" meaning me and my dead bird) are celebrating it with a fresh batch of Songs About Nurses. Listen, share, tag people, and most importantly...Enjoy!  ~  JH

1)  The White Stripes  ~  “The Nurse”

2)  Bush  ~  “Nurse”

3)  Billy Bragg  ~  “A Nurse’s Life Is Full Of Woe”

4)  Cascada  ~  “Night Nurse”

5)  The Presidents Of The United States Of America  ~  “She’s A Nurse”

6)  The Sugarcubes  ~  “Happy Nurse”

7)  Jethro Tull  ~  “Nursie”

8)  Sonic Youth  ~  “Dude Ranch Nurse”

9)  Katatonia  ~  “Sweet Nurse”

10)  Cherry Glazerr  ~  “Nurse Ratched”  (This video is unnecessarily brutal. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Well, actually, there is. Whatevs.)

11)  JJ Cale  ~  “Devil’s Nurse”

12)  Carolyn Rodriguez  ~  “Night Nurse”

13)  Failure  ~  “The Nurse Who Loved Me”

14)  Swift  ~  “Nurse”

15)  Gregory Isaacs  ~  “Night Nurse”

16)  Country Joe McDonald  ~  “Thank The Nurse”

17)  Oceansize  ~  “Music For A Nurse”

18)  SSgt. Barry Sadler  ~  “Salute To The Nurses”  (If you just happen to have been a nurse serving in Vietnam during the war, this song is specifically devoted to you.)

19)  Guided By Voices  ~  “Titus And Strident Wet Nurse”

20)  R.E.M.  ~  “Everybody Hurts”  (This song and the next few in this set are less ABOUT nurses but more about what nurses DO. Here, they help you when you’re hurt.)

21)  Evanescence  ~  “Bring Me To Life”  (Yep, they can do that, too.)

22)  Bette Midler  ~  “Wind Beneath My Wings”  (Any nurse who’s ever taken good care of you more than lives up to this song.)

23)  Coldplay  ~  “Fix You”  (Yup, that’s a big part of their job.)

24)  The Fray  ~  “How To Save A Life”  (Oh, they KNOW how!)

25)  Starflyer 59  ~  “Card Games & Old Friends”  (What every nurse does during their day-long breaks at work, right? Of course this song DOESN’T describe nurses, but references one of the most foolish statements ever to come out of the mouth of a politician. If you’re a nurse, or you love one, or you simply pay attention, you know what I’m talking about.)

Songs About Star Wars

OK, all you STAR WARS fans – and I know there're tons of you out there...here's a little something-something for ya! May The Fourth be with you...and enjoy!  ~  JH

1)  Galactic Empire  ~  “The Imperial March”  (Fantastic rendition of the classic theme song.)

2)  Bad Lip Reading  ~  “Bushes Of Love”

3)  Jamiroquai  ~  “Use The Force”

4)  “Weird Al” Yankovic  ~  “The Saga Begins”

5)  Emily G.  ~  “The Ultimate Jedi Who Wastes All The Other Jedi and Eats Their Bones”  (Original song is by The Mountain Goats, but I couldn't find a good vid of their version.)

6)  Bill Murray  ~  “Star Wars”

7)  Nerf Herder  ~  “I’m The Droid You’re Looking For”  (A Star Wars-inspired song by a band whose name was inspired by an insult from a Star Wars film. Appropriate!)

8)  Christmas In The Stars Cast  ~  “What Can You Get A Wookiee For Christmas (When He Already Owns A Comb)?”  (I know it’s not even remotely Christmastime, but how could I possibly exclude this iconic song from this set?)

9)  Bad Lip Reading  ~  “Seagulls! (Stop It Now)”

10)  Taj Motel Trio  ~  “Vader”

11)  Jimmy Fallon, The Roots, & Star Wars: The Force Awakens Cast  ~  “Star Wars Medley”

12)  Jon Cozart  ~  “Star Wars In 99 Seconds”

13)  Ryan Tellez & Bryan Fisher  ~  “If The Star Wars ‘Cantina Song’ Had Lyrics”

14)  Hot Waffles  ~  “George Lucas Raped Our Childhood”  (The lyrics explain the title.)

17)  Sodom  ~  “Jabba The Hut”

18)  Royish Good Looks  ~  “It’s A Trap!”

19)  “Weird Al” Yankovic  ~  “Yoda”

20)  Zammuto  ~  “F U C-3PO”  (For what it’s worth, the title of this song has nothing to do with the lyrics of the song, and no Star Wars characters or harsh expletives are even mentioned in it.)

21)  Bad Lip Reading  ~  “It’s Not A Moon”

22)  Dionysos  ~  “Song For Jedi”

23)  The Presidents Of The United States Of America  ~  “Death Star”

Grunge Music, Vol. 1

Here's a miniseries of posts that I can certainly relate to – and I'm sure I'm not the only one! This is the first set in what will be a four-part retrospective of some of the best, most influential, and most memorable songs from the "grunge rock" era of music. Which was both not that long ago and ancient history, depending on your perspective. Before we get started, I will concede that we're not all going to agree 100% on whether or not certain songs herein are legitimately "grunge," "post-grunge," punk, pop, or something else entirely – and that's okay. Let's just jam to some good music and don't waste time fighting about the genre ascribed to the songs (by myself or others). Ready...set...enjoy!  ~  JH

1)  Nirvana  ~  “Smells Like Teen Spirit”

2)  Pearl Jam  ~  “Animal”

3)  Soundgarden  ~  “Black Hole Sun”

4)  Alice In Chains  ~  “No Excuses”

5)  Stone Temple Pilots  ~  “Vasoline”

6)  Mudhoney  ~  “Touch Me I’m Sick”

7)  Screaming Trees  ~  “Nearly Lost You”

8)  L7  ~  “Pretend We’re Dead”

9)  Paw  ~  “Couldn’t Know”

10)  Veruca Salt  ~  “Seether”

11)  Silverchair  ~  “Tomorrow”

12)  The Smashing Pumpkins  ~  “Today”

13)  Hole  ~  “Miss World”

14)  Bush  ~  “Everything Zen”

15)  Candlebox  ~  “Far Behind”

16)  Sponge  ~  “Molly (16 Candles)”

17)  Our Lady Peace  ~  “Superman’s Dead”

18)  The Presidents Of The United States Of America  ~  “Lump”

19)  Blind Melon  ~  “No Rain”

20)  Days Of The New  ~  “Touch, Peel, And Stand”

21)  Babes In Toyland  ~  “Bruise Violet”  (It's almost scary how much the lead singer of this group looks like a crazed Reese Witherspoon.)

22)  Melvins  ~  “Honey Bucket”

23)  The Gits  ~  “Second Skin”  (There's a very sad-but-true story about the untimely demise of this band's lead singer. I won't rehash it here, but you can Google it.)

24)  Hum  ~  “Stars”

25)  Local H  ~  “Bound For The Floor”
