"Spiritual" Songs

Last but not least in my latest series of posts, there's this set of "Spiritual" Songs. Ironically, the overwhelming majority of them are by "secular" artists. But that doesn't diminish the songs' value (or enhance it) in any way. There's some really good stuff to be heard here! Enjoy!  ~  JH

1)  Jukebox The Ghost  ~  “The Spiritual”

2)  Eric Benet  ~  “Spiritual Thang”

3)  Moodswings ft. Chrissie Hynde  ~  “Spiritual High (State Of Independence)”

4)  Paul Wardingham  ~  “Spiritual Machines”

5)  John Coltrane  ~  “Spiritual”

6)  Anya Skidan  ~  “Spiritual”

7)  Blitzen Trapper  ~  “Miss Spiritual Tramp”

8)  Strawberry Girls  ~  “Negro Spiritual”  (I have no clue what the title of this song has to do with the actual song. It certainly doesn’t describe the style of music accurately. Also, these musicians are super-white and they’re NOT girls. Makes no sense, but whatevs.)

9)  Laura Nyro  ~  “Mother’s Spiritual”

10)  Gordon Lightfoot  ~  “Rich Man’s Spiritual”

11)  Speech  ~  “Spiritual People”

12)  Spain ft. The Haden Triplets  ~  “Spiritual”

13)  Toots & The Maytals  ~  “Spiritual Healing”

14)  Bon Jovi  ~  “Spiritual Warfare”  (This music video, while titled “Spiritual Warfare,” is actually a medley – of sorts – of two differently-titled songs: “Living With The Ghost” and “Reunion”.)

15)  Katy Perry  ~  “Spiritual”

16)  Toto  ~  “Spiritual Man”

17)  Dirty Sweet  ~  “American Spiritual”

18)  Trin-I-Tee 5:7  ~  “Spiritual Love”

19)  Sean Rowe  ~  “Spiritual Leather”

20)  Stevie Wonder  ~  “Spiritual Walkers”

21)  S Club 7  ~  “Spiritual Love”

22)  Overkill  ~  “Spiritual Void"

23)  Land Of Talk  ~  “Spiritual Intimidation”

24)  Steppenwolf  ~  “Spiritual Fantasy”

25)  K Bleax  ~  “So Spiritual”

Songs About Hollering

Sometimes you just feel like hollering. (Or yelling, for you folks who aren’t from around here.) For all the times when you just feel like raising your voice in a screaming fashion, there’s these songs. Enjoy!  ~  JH

1)  Spice Girls  ~  “Holler”

2)  Randy Travis & Josh Turner  ~  “Deeper Than The Holler”  (Okay, so this one’s not actually *about* hollering. But it’s such a good song that its exclusion from this post would be a crying shame.)

3)  Honey Mustard  ~  “Holler On”

4)  Marvin Gaye  ~  “Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)”

5)  Baha Men  ~  “Holla”

6)  Hayes Carll  ~  “Stomp And Holler”

7)  Girls’ Generation  ~  “Holler”  (Because this post – and this blog in general – was suffering a severe deficit of K-Pop songs, there’s this…)

8)  Blue October  ~  “Holler”

9)  Coco Jones  ~  “Holla At The DJ”

10)  The Lost Trailers  ~  “Holler Back”

11)  Social Studies  ~  “Holler Boys”

12)  Taj Mahal  ~  “Strong Man Holler”

13)  Gwen Stefani  ~  “Hollaback Girl”

14)  Johnny Russell  ~  “The Son Of Hickory Holler’s Tramp”  (Nope, not *about* hollering, either. I guess maybe the word “about” in the title of the post should be a bit loosely defined this time around.)

15)  Trin-I-Tee 5:7 ft. J. Moss  ~  “Holla”

16)  John Prine  ~  “Quit Hollerin’ At Me”

17)  Adrienne Young & The Old Faithful  ~  “Hills And Hollers”

18)  Jalen N’Gonda  ~  “Holler (When You Call My Name)”

19)  Dawn and Hawkes  ~  “Holler”

20)  2Pac  ~  “Holler If Ya Hear Me”

21)  European Theater  ~  “The Heart She Hollered”

22)  Dead Sons  ~  “Hollers And The Hymns”

23)  The Shook Twins  ~  “Holler It Down”

24)  Leo “Bud” Welch  ~  “Girl In The Holler”

25)  Rebecca & Fiona  ~  “Holler”  (The Swedes were jealous of the K-Pop entry in this post, so they had to get in on the fun, too. Another Swedish girl group almost made the cut, too, but not enough slots were available.)

"Lift' & "Drag" Songs

Not exactly "opposites" are these two words, but definitely related, especially when it comes to the physics of aerodynamics. That being said, the songs in this collection have little or nothing to do with aerodynamics. There's a disproportionately high number of lesser-known artists/singers in this one, but don't let that dissuade you from taking a listen. Some good stuff here. Enjoy!  ~  JH

1)  Madrugada ft. Ane Brun  ~  "Lift Me"

2)  The Apples in stereo  ~  "Same Old Drag"

3)  Poets Of The Fall  ~  "Lift"

4)  The Only  ~  "Drag Me Down"

5)  Keith & Kristyn Getty  ~  "Lift High The Name Of Jesus"

6)  Lynch Mob  ~  "Slow Drag"

7)  GIZMO ft. Nick Hakim  ~  "Lift Me Up"

8)  Lush & Simon ft. Rico & Miella  ~  "Drag Me To The Ground"

9)  The Benjamin Gate  ~  "Lift Me Up"

10)  Storm Corrosion  ~  "Drag Ropes"

11)  Trin-i-tee 5:7  ~  "I Will Lift"

12)  The Buckinghams  ~  "Kind Of  A Drag"

13)  Shannon Noll  ~  "Lift"

14)  With Beating Hearts  ~  "Drag Me Down"

15)  Mree  ~  "Lift Me Up"

16)  Stevie Nicks & Tom Petty  ~  "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around"

17)  Lena Katina  ~  "Lift Me Up"

18)  Anberlin  ~  "Feel Good Drag"

19)  Third Day  ~  "Lift Up Your Face"  (I've always liked Third Day. I've even seen them in concert a few times. But they're getting awfully clichéd and watered-down in their lyrics. Case in point: This song.)

20)  Tommy James  ~  "Draggin' The Line"
