NATO Phonetic Alphabet Songs

Some of you may be reading the title of this post and asking yourself (or me, remotely), "What the heck is the NATO Phonetic Alphabet?" While you may not know it by this name (it has a couple of other common names, which are equally clunky), you will probably recognize the concept. If you've ever watched a crime drama, for instance, you've likely heard a law enforcement officer spell out the letters of a license plate over a radio, only to have it sound something like "Victor-Bravo-Foxtrot-One-Zero-Seven." Each letter in the traditional alphabet has a word designation in this NATO Phonetic Alphabet, and one song of each of those letter-words is represented in this set. Because, why not? Enjoy!  ~  JH

Songs About "Lolita"

Some literature is so iconic that notable phrases, character names, or even book titles can become a part of our culture. Over the next who-knows-how-many days, weeks, etc., I'm going to explore some of these iconic novels, stories, and/or phrases and make song posts out of them. Why? Because it seemed like a good idea at the time. (Which would be right now, I suppose.) First up, "Lolita." For what it's worth, I've never read Nabokov's novel, and what little I know of it is merely by its reputation, which is admittedly a mixed bag depending on whom you ask. Enjoy?  ~  JH

“Bath” & “Body” Songs, Vol. 1

Here's a bunch of songs with the words "Bath" and/or "Body" in their titles, the first in a two-part series. Obviously inspired by the name of that popular (IS it still popular? I dunno!) retail store that's chock full of smell-good stuff. Can you tell I'm a clueless guy? Anyways, enjoy!  ~  JH

"Beautiful" Songs

If I didn't tell you this "theme" was a reboot from four-and-a-half years ago (on my original "The Plural Of Hyena" blog, no less), I'm sure you never would have remembered. But it is. And with good reason. Four-and-a-half years ago, I wasn't quite as adept at finding the perfect mix of well-known and lesser-known songs, which should (in theory) tip slightly in favor of the more well-known ones. Also, some of the really good songs included in this two-parter weren't even released four-and-a-half years ago. So here they are. I hope you will...enjoy!  ~  JH
