Still More Weird Christmas Songs, Vol. 3

One last shot of Weird Christmas Songs and then you'll have to wait till next year for more. (If I can find any more, that is.) Ready, set, enjoy!  ~  JH

1)  Emmy The Great & Tim Wheeler  ~  “Zombie Christmas”  (This song is so incredibly catchy, I know it would be a huge holiday hit…if it weren’t about the undead and all.)

2)  The Darkness  ~  “Christmas Time (Don’t Let The Bells End)”  (Nothing says Christmas like wailing guitars and a formidable falsetto!)

3)  Garfunkel and Oates  ~  “Present Face”  (We’ve all done this. And we’re gearing up to do it again in just a couple of weeks. So practice now!)

4)  Dragonette  ~  “Merry Xmas (Says Your Text Message)”  (Merry Mobile Christmas! And a tappy New Year!)

5)  Rebecca Zamolo ft. Madilyn Bailey  ~  “Christmas Sweater”  (Another ode to Christmas sweaters? Aww, you shouldn’t have!)

11)  Aqua  ~  “Spin Me A Christmas”  (All you need are two turntables and a microphone.)

12)  Dave Days   ~  “Snapback Santa Hat”  (I would’ve pegged Santa to wear a fitted, but what do I know?)

13)  Esquivel!  ~  “Jingle Bells (Greetings From Esquivel!)”  (Ho-ho-how odd is this one?)

14)  Cledus T. Judd  ~  “Christmas”  (This guy is always good for a chuckle or two.)

15)  Ivana Raymonda  ~  “Happy White Christmas”  (Those dance moves, though…yeesh!)

17)  Dropkick Murphys  ~  “The Season’s Upon Us”  (This is too funny. No, really, it needs to be less funny. Make it stop.)

18)  Wesley Willis  ~  “Merry Christmas”  (Hands down, one of the worst "singers" I’ve ever heard. Just wow!)

19)  Willie Robertson  ~  “Rajin’ Cajun Redneck Christmas”  (Yep, they actually made a Duck Dynasty Christmas album. And you’re listening to one of the “hit” songs off it right now. You’re welcome!)

Still More Weird Christmas Songs, Vol. 2

Here's another cacophonous collection of Weird Christmas Songs to baffle, befuddle, and boggle the mind. Enjoy?  ~  JH

1)  Mr. Christmas  ~  “It’s Christmas Everyday!”  (Not a bad song, actually. But he is one weird guy!)

2)  Tarrus Riley  ~  “Crime-Free Christmas”  (It’s the least any of us could wish for, right?)

3)  Leroy Carr  ~  “Christmas In Jail – Ain’t That A Pain?”  (Yeah, I can imagine that it would be.)

4)  Manila Luzon & Alaska  ~  “Working Holiday”  (Anyone who’s ever worked in retail can relate to this one.)

6)  The Merry Macs  ~  “Christmas Cha Cha Cha”  (Put on your dancing shoes!)

7)  Shonen Knife  ~  “Sweet Christmas”  (This almost doesn’t qualify as weird enough, but it’s awfully close so here it is.)

9)  Christmas In The Stars  ~  “R2-D2, We Wish You A Merry Christmas”  (Droids need Christmas love, too.)

12)  Cyndi Lauper  ~  “Minnie And Santa”  (Too much information, Cyndi…)

14)  The Marcels  ~  “Merry Twistmas”  (Well, why not?)

15)  H.E.R.  ~  “Psychedelic Christmas”  (Trippy!)

16)  Portland Youth Philharmonic  ~  “Bassoon It Will Be Christmas”  (This is, essentially, an instrumental medley of well-known Christmas songs. What's unique is that the featured instrument here is a bassoon. While quite beautiful to listen to, it’s still pretty darn weird if you ask me!)

17)  Wengie  ~  “Ugly Christmas Sweater”  (An ode to ugly. I love it!)

18)  The Kinks  ~  “Father Christmas”  (You have to see it to believe it!)

19)  T. Rex  ~  “Christmas Bop”  (Hope you still have your dancing shoes on…)

20)  Basshunter  ~  “Jingle Bells (Bass)”  (Merry Bassmas to all, and to all a good beat.)

21)  Pearl Bailey  ~  “C’est Magnifique” / “Five Pound Box Of Money”  (The second song here – which is the Christmas-themed one – starts around the 4:15 mark. But the whole video is golden!)

22)  Johnny Bower ft. Little John & The Rinky Dinks  ~  “Honky The Christmas Goose”  (This may be the only time the word “honky” will ever appear on my blog without being followed by the word “tonk.”)

23)  Chris De Burgh  ~  “A Spaceman Came Traveling”  (Let’s take the traditional Christmas story and set it out in outer space, they said. It’ll be great, they said. And actually, it kinda is…)

24)  Showaddywaddy  ~  “Hey, Mr. Christmas”  (The greatest thing about this song might very well be the name of the artist.)

25)  Fountains Of Wayne  ~  “I Want An Alien For Christmas”  (Ooh, me too, me too!)

Still More Weird Christmas Songs, Vol. 1

For the past several years, I've been accumulating playlists full of the most wonderfully weird Christmas-themed songs that have somehow made their way into recordings. While I've certainly found dozens of gems prior to now, I've never searched as high and low as I did this year seeking oddball holiday songs previously unknown to me. The result is a three-part series that begins right now. Enjoy!  ~  JH

BLOGGER'S NOTE:  If you happened to miss the previous "Weird Christmas Songs" posts, you can find them here, here, and here. In addition, you can check out some highly unusual songs about Santa Claus here and here.

1)  Rhett & Link ft. Hannah Hart, Grace Helbig, Benny Fine, & DeStorm  ~  “Christmas Sweatz”  (This is the first in a 3-video series of Christmas-themed songs by these folks. All of which will appear in these posts, and all of 'em weird, too.)

2)  Pond  ~  “All I Want For Xmas (Is A Tascam 388)”  (I looked it up. This is some kind of home studio recording device thingamajig.)

3)  Yogi Yorgesson  ~  “Yingle Bells”  (What's next, "Yingle Bell Rock"?)

4)  Anto Sharp  ~  “Let’s Put Christmas In Your Basket”  (Sure, why not?)

5)  Darlene Love  ~  “Christmastime For The Jews”  (No one gets left out this year.)

6)  Gene Autry & The Pinafores  ~  “He’s A Chubby Little Fellow”  (Way to fat-shame the gift-bringer, cowboy! Now you’ve ruined everything for all of us!)

7)  Christafari ft. Makamae Auwae  ~  “Angels We Have Heard On High”  (This is how to cover ALL the bases in one short video.)

8)  RuPaul  ~  “Nothing For Christmas”  (Aww, poor guy...well, sort of.)

9)  Augie Rios  ~  “Donde Está Santa Claus?"  (Yeah, where IS that jolly old elf?)

10)  Frank Sidebottom  ~  “Christmas Is Really Fantastic”  (Isn't it, though?)

11)  Half Man Half Biscuit  ~  “All I Want For Christmas Is A Dukla-Prague Away Kit”  (I didn't look this one up. But whatever it is, this guy wants one.)

12)  Billy Idol  ~  “Yellin’ At The Xmas Tree”  (I'm sure we've all done this at some point.)

13)  Bob Rivers Comedy Corp.  ~  “The Twelve Pains Of Christmas”  (Only 12???)

14)  Sia  ~  “Santa’s Coming For Us”  (That sounds vaguely menacing...)

15)  Fall Out Boy  ~  “Yule Shoot Your Eye Out”  (Don't say you weren't warned.)

16)  Destenee  ~  “Hello Kitty Christmas”  (I know people who celebrate in this manner.)

17)  The Maine  ~  “Ho Ho Hopefully”  (Clever title. Good song. Weird video.)

18)  Crystal Antlers  ~  “10,000 Watts”  (That's a lot of light bulbs!)

19)  Bob Dylan  ~  “Must Be Santa”  (Accordions were never put to such good use in a Christmas song before this.)

20)  Ivana Raymonda ~  “Christmas And Love”  (Two things I'm particularly fond of.)

21)  blink-182  ~  “I Won’t Be Home For Christmas”  (It's alright. You guys weren't invited anyway.)

22)  Allo, Darlin’  ~  “Space Christmas”  (Far out, man!)

23)  NewSong  ~  “The Christmas Shoes”  (Some of you are probably frowning at your screen right now because I included this song here. But when you think about it, it truly is weird! I mean, it’s not like Mama can take the shoes with her where she’s going. Treacle, folks…pure treacle!)

24)  B-SHOC  ~  “Happy Hip-Hop Christmas”  (Ho-ho-homeboy!)

25)  Clarence Carter  ~  “Back Door Santa”  (I can't even...)
